Profile

I’m Keith Bowers

I’m a former television journalist who has worked for the BBC and Al-Jazeera. I’m also the author of two books.
Imperial Exile tells the story of the exile in Britain of Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia in the 1930s.
Viewing History is an eye-witness account of dramatic transitions of power in the world over the last quarter of a century.
My home is in the beautiful city of Bath in the west of England.

Here are the two aims of my site in detail:

First, highlight and exchange links to authoritative primary source documents and databases from international organisations and global players

This will enable us to get an unmediated view of how individuals and groups in their own words are tackling the virus. I welcome any suggestions for links to intelligent and trustworthy insights into developing trends, especially in the worlds of science, diplomacy, international development, culture and business.

It’s also important to look beyond the time a vaccine has stabilised the threat of the virus and correlate shared international lessons for the future. It will be encouraging for us all to share these informed and accurate first-hand views as we figure out how to rebuild our interconnected lives over the next few years.

Second, share and swap stories with well-informed individuals in different parts of the world

Through travel and internet links many of us have an international network of family, friends and professional contacts who enrich our lives and outlook. In my years of viewing history I have always believed it to be important to understand the wider picture through the experiences of individuals as well.

I intend to highlight the stories of perceptive and trusted friends in countries such as India, Ethiopia, Qatar, Poland, Spain, Canada, America, Australia and New Zealand. And from different parts of the UK too. Oh, and for good measure both my sons live in South Korea.

The tone will sometimes be sober, sometimes light. I love reading words which make us think big thoughts by teasing out strategic perspectives.

But I also love on-the-spot and reliable personal anecdotes which can move and inspire us.

So that’s why I’m calling this new site globalwindow – to open up the view to both the big picture and also to drill down to the grassroots.

Finally, I would like to say a big thank you to Yemane Tsegaye without whom I could not have got this site up and running. His continued advice and support are invaluable. You can follow his life and times in LA on Instagram with the handle of lifeofyemane.
